2010 Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 MultiAir Design and Review

Alfa Romeo has announced that they will release the MiTo with a new line of engines. The Alfa Romeo MiTo will now come with a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine initially in 105 horsepower and 135 horsepower variants. The first two units are available on the full MiTo range, while the 170 horsepower MultiAir Turbobenzina is expected to follow on the upcoming Quadrifoglio Verde, or Green Four-Leaf Clover.

Alfa Romeo, always a byword for sophisticated engineering and high-performance engines, proudly presents the revolutionary MultiAir system, developed and patented by FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies.

The 1.4 MultiAir engines provides some 10 percent more power and 10 percent more fuel efficiency than a traditional petrol engine with the same displacement. According to Fiat Powertrain Technologies data, particulates drop by up to 40 percent and NOx level are brought down to half.
The mid-range 1.4 Turbobenzina 135 hp engine for instance, allows for naught to sixty sprint “at the very top of the mini category.” CO2 emission levels for this engine stand at 129g/km of CO2, while fuel consumption rating stands at 5.6l/100 km.
Finally, the new generation of MultiAir engines has been designed to enhance the car setup options available via the Alfa DNA selector to ensure the most effective response to the driver’s expectations and the different road conditions, adjusting its performance via a different torque curve, accelerator sensitivity and overboost management.
