New Ford Fusion Mid-Size Car

The 2010 Ford Fusion ranks 4 out of 23 Affordable Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 12 published reviews and test drives of the Ford Fusion, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The Ford Fusion is no longer just viable competition for the imports. It’s now one of the best midsize family cars. Substantially improved for 2010, it now boasts one of the most upscale interiors in the affordable midsize class, a more powerful lineup of engines, and available all-wheel drive – something few competitors can claim.

With all models, the interior design team created a more contemporary, technical look with metallic new finishes on the instrument panel that carry through on the center console, doors and steering wheel. The all new instrument panel is finished with a soft upper and lower skin and has much less hard plastic than Japanese competitors. The instrument panel displays and switches have also been updated with a contemporary iced blue lighting. A redesigned leather wrapped steering wheel with form fitting palm swells, a new shifter, and wrapped and padded armrests increase the Fusion’s sportiness and comfort at all key driver touch points.

The 2010 Ford Fusion is available in front- or all-wheel-drive, with three different engines and two transmissions – an array of choices that lets the buyer determine how the car will perform. Reviewers like all three engines, and are particularly impressed with a new, more powerful four-cylinder. The availability of a six-speed manual impresses some writers as well.
