River Road House by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects
River Road house is designed for young families with a view overlooking the outdoors, both coastal and landscape beyond. Taking refuge on a hillside overlooking the water, the structure of the house is a series of expansive decks and an intimate courtyard and cantilever, with a quiet interior, a room that seemed to defy gravity, even while embracing density Italian limestone and stucco facade. Views to the southwest include dynamic activities in the waters of the marina and track the movement of the sun, wind and water. River Road House is a 12,300-square-foot house, completed in 2008, is a complex composition, reminiscent of Georges Braque canvas, in which geometric shapes appear and disappear in a constant dance of illusion and materiality. Friendly interior is highlighted by using Mahogany, Lime Minnesota, and finished plaster. Afternoon sun is treated with aluminum grating and structural arrangements cleverly. Kitchen bulthaup enhanced by walls of sliding windows that open to exterior pages.
