Located in Rhode Island Avenue, NW at 7th Street, the library has a building area of 22 800 square feet. The building consists of three floors, one below grade and two floors above. The main lobby provides access to a lower level, and access to appropriate library. The ground floor consists of a library of children and where the main service and staff areas. Upper-level libraries to provide adult collection, including references and adult reading rooms. online catalog spread across the floor, the library also offers two 10-person conference room and individual learning spaces to enable collaboration in a quiet environment.
Watha T. Daniel / Shaw Library is designed to meet LEED Silver Certification, Watha library equipped air displacement systems, solar control and use recyclable materials and renewable. Shading system allows to reduce dependence on artificial lighting and energy-related costs and to protect library collections from harmful sun exposure.
